Welcome to the Tracking Dogs course at Moo Dog Training, where we combine fun, teamwork and science-based methods to unleash your dog’s natural tracking instincts.
Why tracking?

Tracking gives your dog a job. It stimulates their mind, taps into their instinct, builds confidence and strengthens your bond.
Whether your dog is a young enthusiastic learner, a teen that needs direction or an adult who wants a new challenge, tracking could be the perfect fit!
What we cover:

Building foundation skills: alerting, focus, movement, direction following the track.

Short tracks: simple trails in familiar terrain to build success and motivation.
-
Intermediate tracks: increasing length, distractions, different surfaces and conditions.
-
Teamwork & handler skills: reading your dog’s behaviour and setting up the track.

FAQ's
Do I need any previous experience to join?

No experience is needed. It is suitable for beginners and those with a little scent or mantrailing under their belt. We progress at your team’s pace.
What age does my dog need to be?
As soon as your puppy is safe is to be out and about (as in has had their vaccinations they can join), there is no upper age limit.
Is tracking suitable for reactive dogs?
Yes, absolutely! We just ask that you contact us so we can arrange to provide this service on a one-to one basis.
What do I need to bring?

A well-fitting harness, 5–10 m long line, high-value food, water, and all weather-sensible clothing with sturdy footwear. We trail in all weather conditions outside.
How long are the sessions and where are they held?
About 45 minutes. The course runs over six weeks to allow steady progress.
How many dogs are in each group?

Small groups of up to 6 dogs to give every team time, space, and tailored guidance.
What makes tracking different from scent work?

Scent work searches for a target odour in a small area; tracking follows human scent across terrain. It is about the journey, not a single find.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We run unless conditions are unsafe (extreme heat, storms, heavy snow). Different weather offers useful scent learning.

Will my dog need to rest in the car on their own?

Yes sometimes, as we may pair you up with another handler to lay tracks.

Are dogs that wear a muzzle allowed?

Yes, that is no problem at all.
Please note: Sadly we are not able to accept dogs that are exempted or breeds or mixed breeds that are on the Dangerous Dogs List due to insurance.
